Pertinace Barbera d'Alba 2016

Member Review by RandyFisher:

This is the 2015 vintage and the third vintage I've bought from them. Ripe black fruit with balancing acid and a long tart tanninless finish. Nice barbera and nice for a change.

Nice balance of fruit and acidity with no noticeable tannins. There was a course sediment in the bottom of the bottle. Good basic barbera.

Light, good acidity. Light leather nose. Very acidic attack, which makes it lighter. Nice finish, but fairly plain and lacks fruit.

Vintage: 2012 02/16/2016

The Pertinace winery is a winegrower’s cooperative with an over 30 year history of producing outstanding Piedmont wines. With vineyards of over 15 growers, sourcing quality grapes is never a challenge. For this Barbera D’Alba te best grapes from some of the Co-op’s oldest vineyards are used. Vinified on the skins for up to ten days and the aged in small oak barrels for several months, the wine is fruity but full, good structure. It shows aromas of violets, black plums and licorice. On the palate it expresses lively acidity and plum, berry and spice notes. Ideal with cheese or hearty soups and stews but full bodied enough for meat or game.

The Pertinace winery was founded on the outskirts of the village of Treiso by Mario Barbero and twelve grower friends in early 1973. With great enthusiasm, they combined their properties and experience to produce wines of the highest quality, offering everything one expects from Piedmont. This delightful Barbera is aged 6 months in traditional Slavonian Casks. Wine & Spirits Magazine designated it a "Best Buy" saying "Light and fresh, this is a simple, grapey red, its smooth, nutty finish ready for broccoli rabe pasta."
