Food Pairings for Perticaia Sagrantino di Montefalco
This is a silky and elegant Sagrantino. Structure is present but not overwhelming. The long cold soaking eases the tannins. The only Sagrantino that I have tried that can be consumed young, yet offer the bold characteristics of the Sagrantino grape. Masterfully crafted wine and most certainly deserving the THREE RED GLASSES with Gambero Rosso for 4 consecutive years. COLOR: Intense ruby red with hues of garnet (typical of Sagrantino varietal) BOUQUET: Spicy, there is a scent of cinnamon that doesn’t overpower the aroma of red fruit, black cherry; with aging and refinement in the bottle an aroma of dried prunes will evolve TASTE: Very full and persistent, silky tannins with an agreeable touch of bitterness EVOLUTION: This is a wine that will evolve in the bottle so if it is stored properly it will mature...
2.75 stars Appearance: deep ruby with some brick in the core Nose: medium intensity of menthol and artifical cherry Palate: high powdery tannins, high acidity with flavors of cherry, eucalpytus
Deep garnet color with an aromatic nose of unsweetened cocoa powder, dried cherries, nutmeg, clove, hay, and anise. The palate hits you with dusty red fruit, ash, leather, and a tiny hint of aged balsamic. This wine was very dry, medium heavy bodied, with lively acidity, high level of hard gritty tannins, and a very long juicy finish. This is a big tannic wine with good acidity which helps to balance out the wine. It was hard to drink on it's own though I do believe with the right type of food say roasted lamb chops, pork, or a nice marbled steak this wine would show much better. It will probably getter better with another 5 to 10 years of bottle aging but if you must drink now definitely decant for a couple of hours or drink the next day. 3.5/5
