Perrier Jouët Vintage 1998

Winemaker's Notes:

In 1811 Pierre-Nicolas-Marie Perrier established Perrier-Jouët, adding the maiden name of his wife, Ad le Jouët, to name the house. Based in the town of Épernay, Perrier-Jouët expanded rapidly and have been exporting to the UK since 1815. The brut style that emerged with the second generation, son Charles Perrier, was hailed as a radical success. It was a style that was soon adopted by other producers in the rest of the region. The Vintage 1998 is dominated by Chardonnay from the village of Cramant and with a small amount of Pinot Noir, complimented by a touch of Pinot Meurnier this gives this champagne its finesse and elegance. With notes of toast and brioche on the nose, good acidity and white fruit with a lemon edge on the palate. This wine also has great potential to age.

Very fresh champagne, floral notes, extremely smooth taste - friend described it as creamy, though a bit lighter than that even. Classic looking bottle - art nouveau chic.

This stunning white Champagne is from the House of Perrier Jouet, founded in Epernay in 1811, which is known the world over for its high quality champagnes and its prestigious vineyard. Made only in the greatest years, vintage Grand Brut combines the lightness of the traditional brut and the special flavour of the vintage year. Charming, light and fruity, the 1998 vintage fully expresses the outstanding character of the year it was made as well as the rich resources of the Perrier-Jouët vineyard. It has all the charm of floral and fruity aromas and is a tender, luminous, pale yellow colour. There is a steady stream of fine, lively bubbles which form a persistent foam which emphasises the elegance of the wine. Bouquet: it is fine and elegant, with aromas of white flowers, fresh fruit and hints of vanilla. Palate: The strength of the pinot grapes merges with the finesse of the chardonnay grapes, to reveal a powerful and elegant roundness. This wine is long on the palate, giving way to a very pleasant finish that entices you to drink a second glass! Alcohol : 12,2% vol. Pressure : 6 kg at 20°C Sugar content : 9,5g/l

The tête de cuvée from Perrier-Jouët. Medium-bodied and complex, Fleur de Champagne is enjoyed by lovers of great Champagne for its beautiful flower-painted bottle, as much as its smooth, sophisticated taste.
