Père Anselme la Grivelière Côtes du Rhône Aoc 2009
Côtes du Rhône is overpopulated with Thrush birds, or Grive in French, that devour the grapes in the vineyards when ripe. Harvested in early September, the grapes were immediately destalked and crushed upon reception at the winery. Each varietal was vinified separately. Fermentation took place over 5 days in concrete tanks at controlled temperatures (Grenache & Mourvedre: 28°C/ Syrah & Carignan: 26°C). For 15 days, the wine was left in contact with the skins with twice daily pump-overs and delestages performed. Malolactic fermentation occurred. Aged in a combination of concrete tanks and large oak casks for 6 months. Filtered prior to bottling, the wine was cellared an additional 18 months before release.
