Pentage Wines Cabernet Franc 2006

External Review:

Cabernet Franc is one of the five reds that winery co-owner Paul Gardner grows to blend into the flagship Pentâge red. Both the winery and the wine get that name from pente, the Greek word for five, as well as for the winery’s proximity to the nearby city of Penticton. In 2004, Gardner released Cabernet Franc on its own as well, with such acclaim that he has followed with another from the 2005 vintage. He maintains that the variety makes wines that are lighter and fruitier than Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine delivers all of the vivid berry flavours that are classic to Cabernet Franc, but with an age worthiness that will rival most Okanagan Cabernets. The aroma suggests cherries and currants with a touch of spice. On the palate, there are lively notes of cherry, mocha and tobacco, with a hint of oak. The tannins are ripe and long, with none of the herbaceousness sometimes found in Cabernet Franc. The wine is at its best when decanted. 88 points.

Paul had a great desire for land and space, when we happened to stumble upon 4400 Lakeside Road - "it had everything right...wrong with it" said Paul. With his vision and immense passion.....the dream started to unfold. As a marine engineer, Paul was away from home a third of every year, in 1995 he decided he wanted to build a home and a business that would allow us to work as a team. Paul's greatest passion was the making of wine -- the challenge and love for wine along with the perfect property - made this dream a reality. Julie, with business and administration background, runs the business side of things along with overseeing the vineyard. Working as a team, we are we are both involved in every aspect of our business. Read less
