Penny's Hill Shiraz Mclaren Vale Footprint 2008
Red licorice nose with hints of violet. On the palate, the licorice continues along with blueberry and a bit of candy apply towards the end.
Excellent value--a bold, full, jammy wine that pairs well with big meals and spicy foods.
Binny's - $11/bottle
Served as a Thanksgiving apertif--just enough effervescence to make your mouth feel especially happy.
Vibrant fruit, with a touch of sweetness on the front gives way to heavier berry notes and a touch of acid with light tannins on the finish. A very guest-friendly wine to enjoy alone or with food.

The 2004 Shiraz (100% Shiraz from McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek, and the Limestone Coast) sees some oak, a small amount of which is new. Notes of flowers, black currants, licorice, and road tar are discernible, but the emphasis is on oodles of up-front fruit, an opulent attack, sweet tannin, and a lush, heady mid-palate and finish. This is the type of everyday red that will be exceptionally popular with consumers. The good news is that there are 45,000 cases of this winner! Enjoy it over the next 2-3 years.
Smooth and spicy, a distinctive red with a strong licorice note running through the dark berry flavors.
The 2003 Shiraz is a 100% Shiraz from such regions as Langhorne Creek, Riverland, McLaren Vale, and Fleuriu. Twenty percent was aged in oak, and the rest in tank. No wimpish red at 14.8% alcohol, it reveals a deep ruby/purple color, a big, peppery, black currant and cherry-scented bouquet, loads of flavor, and a hint of earth in the background. Supple-textured and luscious, it delivers a lot of flavor as well as character for the price. Consume it during its first 1-2 years of life.
Light in texture, with pretty blueberry and mint flavors. Drink now.
Dark violet. Smoke-tinged blackberry and blackcurrant on the nose, with complicating notes of cured meat and sweet vanilla. Suave and round, with supple tannins framing sweet raspberry and blackberry flavors. Finishes fleshy, sweet and persistent, with subtle lingering notes of smoke and spice. There are 45,000 cases of this superb bargain.
Welcome in one of Premier's most recent shiraz additions; it had to travel all the way from out in "woop woop" to get here! ("Woop woop" is an Australian term for a place in the middle of nowhere.) Wonderfully juicy, plump, and smooth, with good black cherry fruit and soft tannins, this shiraz would pair well with roast beef, turkey or pasta with red sauce.
The 2006 Shiraz offers up a spicy, black fruit-scented nose followed by a succulent, savory wine with gobs of flavor and excellent balance. Drink this seamless effort over the next 1-2 years.
