Penner-Ash Pinot Noir 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

90 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): Brilliant ruby-red. Intense raspberry and cherry aromas are complemented by white pepper, allspice and smoky minerals. On the palate, juicy, sharply focused red fruit flavors stretch out and gain weight with air. Finishes on a lively spicy note, with very good length and sneaky tannins. Distinctly elegant for the vintage and very enjoyable now. (Jul/Aug 2014)

Penner-Ash:
Lynn started Penner-Ash Wine Cellars with husband Ron in 1998, carefully crafting small amounts of Pinot noir and Syrah, while she was still at Rex Hill. Their early success with the label caused them to dream of what they could create and in 2001 they began building the Penner-Ash brand full time. Penner-Ash has achieved impressive growth, going from 125 cases of Pinot noir in 1998 to a projected 8,000 cases of Pinot noir and Syrah in 2007.

The first time i had this pinot i was knocked on my ass. The nose is dominated by roses while the body is soft and elegant and just mind numbingly amazing. A velvety, soft subtle berries on the mouth. Yum!!

This 7,000-case effort retained the quality for which the winery’s limited-production wines are known. The fruit-laden 2012 vintage helps, and the wine beguiles from first sniff to last sip. Cherries, chocolate, sandalwood and saffron interweave. The mouthfeel is soft and supple, and the delicate balance of fruit, acid and barrel never lets you down.

Tasting Notes - Dark ruby in color, this exceptionally perfumed Pinot displays an aromatic array of wood smoke, toast, floral notes, black cherry, and black raspberry. This leads to an elegantly styled, spicy, focused, impeccably balanced wine with excellent volume, intensity of flavor, and a lengthy, seamless finish.

Firm in texture, but lively, offering a cherry glow to the flavor profile against crisp tannins. Finishes with impressive persistence. Best from 2012 through 2016. 4,500 cases made. -HS Wine Spectator. A Pinot Noir wine from Oregon in USA. 2008 Penner-Ash Winery Pinot Noir 750ml

Light and beautifully focused, with a delicate mineral note weaving through the cherry and currant fruit, all of it lingering effortlessly. Drink now through 2012.

The deep crimson-colored 2007 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard reveals toasty barrel notes, a bit of scorched earth, and darker fruit than the Williamette Valley cuvee. On the palate it exhibits layered, savory fruit, good depth and sweetness of fruit. There is enough underlying ripe tannin to support another 2–3 years of bottle age and it will provide optimal drinking from 2011 to 2019.

Vivid red. Forward, expressive aromas of raspberry, cherry, Asian spices and smoky herbs. Fleshy but taut, with nicely focused red and dark berry flavors and good back-end cut. Refreshingly nervy and precise, with good spicy persistence. A bit of bottle age should bring more depth and sweetness.
