Food Pairings for Penfolds R.W.T. Shiraz
OK wine. Very rich and robust with a lot of dark fruit. Not complex at all. Not a wine to bring to a nice dinner party if you're trying to impress anyone
Holding it's color well after 13 years, still deep red and youthful looking. I was concerned because some of these have turned up corked recently but this bottle seems in good condition. Nose is restrained for an Aussie Shiraz; pronounced violets and inkiness upon opening. Later, some typical fruit appears, a bit spicy and maybe a little heat. This in-your-face style Shiraz has definitely mellowed to a graceful wine. Nice acid and not overextracted. Well balanced and integrated. There is a distinct leather-licorice thing going on that I can't quite pin down but it really lends a nice finish I'm finishing the bottle now and it seems to get better with every sip. A tragedy! Just ekes in to the 'outstanding' rating; very enjoyable but mediocre QPR for $34.
this is an excellent Shiraz....wonderful bouquet on the nose and followed by smooth and balanced palette...one of the most wonderful wines i have had :)
This Cabernet Shiraz blend has years in front of it. Personally, I keep finding that 1996 in South Australia is a far better cellaring proposition than 1998
External Reviews for Penfolds R.W.T. Shiraz
Rich in character and aristocratic in structure, a noble red that wears its subtle cherry, blackberry, chocolate, pepper and sweet spice flavors on a polished frame like a bespoke suit, letting them all play out elegantly on the well-buffed finish. D... Wine Spectator. A Syrah wine from South Australia in Australia. 2000 Penfolds Shiraz Rwt 750ml
A very interesting wine, balancing tangy red plum and blueberry flavors with rich chocolate, spice and toast overtones. Long and tasty, this feels like it can grow and grow. Drink now through 2006. 175 cases imported. -HS Wine Spectator. A Syrah wine from South Australia in Australia. 1996 Penfolds Shiraz Magill Estate 750ml
