Add your reviewA butter bomb on a diet, the 2004 vintage from Penfold’s affordable Koonunga Hill line is a trimmer version of oaked chardonnay that cuts the fat, while still managing to dole out deliciously dangerous levels of aroma and flavour. Small barrique aging has led to a liberal dollop of oak spice, char, and buttered popcorn on the nose. Melon, apple crisp, and vanilla are added to the mix on the palate, which nonetheless manages to seem pleasantly tight and restrained. Low in flab, high in character.
