Penfolds Koonunga Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet, a multi-district blend based on Barossa, McLaren Vale and Coonawarra fruit, has become a Penfolds classic with a reputation for over-delivery of quality at its pricepoint. Winemakers seek to maintain its style, weight and concentration each year, regardless of vintage conditions. Shiraz usually leads the wine, varying from 50% to 65+% of the blend. Koonunga Hill has a reputation for medium, occasionally long-term cellaring potential, but has always been crafted for immediate enjoyment upon release.
Koonunga Hill is a wine produced by Penfolds, one of Australia’s most famous wineries. The wine is named for the location of one of their Barossa Valley vineyards, first produced by winemaker Don Ditter in 1976 as a Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Today, Chief Winemaker is Peter Gago, and the range consists of the flagship blend as well as single varietal Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, a Cabernet/Merlot blend and Chardonnay.
Forgot to review this while drinking it but I wasn't blown away. Less fruit than I typically expect from an Aussie Shiraz (probably because of the Cabernet in there). It was drinkable, and I'd buy it again in a pinch, but for $10 I think there are better wines out there.
Just OK. seemed to have a strong plummy taste. 71% shiraz.

The 2007 Koonunga Hill Shiraz (75%) - Cabernet Sauvignon (25%) was aged for eight months in seasoned oak. Purple-colored, it has an expansive perfume of blue and black fruits. On the palate it is supple-textured, ripe, and layered. This surprisingly elegant wine will evolve for several years and provide pleasure through 2017.

The 2008 Koonunga Hill Shiraz-Cabernet, which was aged in seasoned American oak hogsheads. It offers up a fragrant nose of cedar, spice box, black currant, and blueberry. Sweetly-fruited and easy going on the palate, this juicy, medium-bodied wine will provide enjoyment over the next 5-6 years.
