Penfolds Koonunga Hill:
Koonunga Hill is a wine produced by Penfolds, one of Australia’s most famous wineries. The wine is named for the location of one of their Barossa Valley vineyards, first produced by winemaker Don Ditter in 1976 as a Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Today, Chief Winemaker is Peter Gago, and the range consists of the flagship blend as well as single varietal Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, a Cabernet/Merlot blend and Chardonnay.
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Similar to other recently opened from the same batch. Allowed wine to breathe in the glass for about 20 minutes, after which typical solid characteristics of this wine appeared. Very much a regular table wine - not one to bring out at special occasions. Will keep some for a few years to review, as I've only ever considered this wine as a drink now.

A little sharp on the palate. Not terribly smooth - disappointing compared to expectations.

Pedestrian, but always dependable with pizza.

Clean black cherry flavors balance the tight, chalky tannins of this wine; to pair with steak.

Sweet and perfumed, with additional aromas of bacon and baking spice. The palate is warm, chunky and jam-packed with plum fruit and tasty spice. The tail end is meaty and toasty, with some chocolate notes adding richness.

Concentrated, sweet cherry flavors have a touch of tannin for pairing with ribs.
