Penfolds Koonunga Hill Cabernet Merlot 2010

External Review by We Speak Wine:

The Koonunga Hill Cabernet Merlot has successfully built upon this tradition, offering Cabernets up-front dark fruit flavour and length, while Merlots juicy plum fruit fills out the mid-palate to create a seamless wine from start to finish.Koonunga Hill Cabernet Merlot is defined by its full-flavoured style with excellent fruit and approachability. The wine makes moderate use of oak maturation to add complexity while remaining in balance with the wines fresh fruit flavours. - Winery ** SOLD OUT **

Similar to other recently opened from the same batch. Allowed wine to breathe in the glass for about 20 minutes, after which typical solid characteristics of this wine appeared. Very much a regular table wine - not one to bring out at special occasions. Will keep some for a few years to review, as I've only ever considered this wine as a drink now.

Improving with age. Now a reasonably attractive quaffer.

A little sharp on the palate. Not terribly smooth - disappointing compared to expectations.

Bright and lively, with a supple texture and currant flavors that linger gently. Drink now.

Sweet and perfumed, with additional aromas of bacon and baking spice. The palate is warm, chunky and jam-packed with plum fruit and tasty spice. The tail end is meaty and toasty, with some chocolate notes adding richness.

Concentrated, sweet cherry flavors have a touch of tannin for pairing with ribs.

Lithe, supple style has a nice core of currant and plum flavor, shaded with a touch of cedar. Drink now.
