Penfolds Koonunga Hill Adelaide 2010
Deep brick red. The nose is varietal, unmistakably Cabernet; black fruit aromas of cherry and blackcurrant with the PENFOLDS maturation character apparent. The palate is medium weight and well balanced with fig and quince flavors combining with the liveliness of dark berried fruits. Well handled, integrated oak provides firm, yet well balanced and supple tannins. A lovely sweet creamy mid palate adds length and texture to the finish.
Koonunga Hill is a wine produced by Penfolds, one of Australia’s most famous wineries. The wine is named for the location of one of their Barossa Valley vineyards, first produced by winemaker Don Ditter in 1976 as a Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Today, Chief Winemaker is Peter Gago, and the range consists of the flagship blend as well as single varietal Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, a Cabernet/Merlot blend and Chardonnay.
