Penfolds Kalimna Bin 28 Shiraz 2005

The palate shows a continuum of generous Shirazvarietal prune notes, plum fruits and assortedspices. The wine is plush, yet still tightlystructured, with a substantial mid-palate. Thenoticeable tannins are youthful and powdery.The 2005 Bin 28 is true to style and offerssignificant aging potential.

Wine Tasting NotesA deepened crimson with a purple core. The nose is complex and beguiling, with notes of demi-glace and roasting pan juices, beneath scents of pipe tobacco, vanilla and pencil shavings oak - much more than just a simple varietal offering. The palate is full-bodied, refined and taut showing dark, black conserve fruit flavors with Satsuma plum notes to the fore. Further liqueur chocolate and spice flavors are impregnated by overt, chewy and ripe tannins. To sum up, the integrated fruit, oak and acid loudly proclaim harmony and balance. I love its rolling- fleshy- assertive tannin. It's got lots of plummy- earthy flavour and a nice kiss of toasty oak. It's deceptively substantial- its tannin and acid taking time in the glass to settle. I sat with this wine for a while and liked it more and more - the first time I tasted it- last September- it looked brilliant- and I now suspect that it had been decanted for a while at this tasting. Not my favorite Shiraz, which i usually enjoy. Found this one sucked all the life out of my mouth. And the food. Left me reaching for my water glass...
