Penfolds Grange Best of the Best James Halliday Top 100 Wines 2006
The Penfolds Grange is arguably Australia's most famous wine and is officially listed as a Heritage Icon of South Australia. Grange boasts an unbroken line of vintages from the experimental 1951 and clearly demonstrates the synergy between Shiraz and the soils and climates of South Australia. Penfolds Grange displays fully ripe, intensely flavoured and textured Shiraz grapes. The result is a unique Australian style that is now recognised as one of the most consistent of the world's great wines. The Grange style is the original and most powerful expression of Penfolds multi-vineyard, multi-district blending philosophy. The flavour pool primarily highlights Satsuma plum conserve alongside rhubarb, aniseed, fennel, with liqueur chocolate shyly awaiting mid-palate. There is a definite tannin structure from the oak, nevertheless this wine is balanced, firm, polished. The first sip welcomes, the second sip asserts, the third... submission!

98% shiraz, sourced from the Barossa Valley and the Magill Estate below the Adelaide Hills, and 2% cabernet sauvignon. The 55th vintage of Grange. Opaque in color all the way to the rim. Accurately reflecting the nature of the vintage, highlights a b... Chuck Hayward. A Syrah wine from South Australia in Australia. 2006 Penfolds Grange 750ml
Only the third Grange to be produced from 100% Shiraz, the 1999 Grange is superb... A wine of great intensity, sweet tannin, voluptuous texture, and a spectacularly long finish, it will be at its finest between 2007-2025.'
Pre-Arrival Item - Will Ship Mid-May - Winemaker Notes - From humble beginnings in the 1950s, Grange has maintained its place as Australia's most prestigious red wine over five decades. Today, it is a wine of international renown, with each vintage eagerly awaited by collectors both in Australia and overseas. Penfolds Grange is a wine of extraordinary dimension and power. Richly textured, intensely concentrated and packed with fruit sweetness, these wines, regardless of vintage, require medium to long-term cellaring. They develop into immensely complex, beguiling wines that seduce the senses. An Australian icon, Grange represents a tradition in winemaking that is totally uncompromising. Grange has bypassed the fads and trends of modern winemaking in the sense that it has maintained an integrity of style and remained true to its origins in the mind of Max Schubert. Penfolds Grange is the quality standard against which all other Australian red wines are judged...
Made from fruit coming predominantly from the Barossa Valley this year (97%) and containing 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2006 Grange has been added to my list of favorite recent vintages. Deep garnet-purple colored, it's still a little youthfully mute,... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. A Syrah wine from South Australia in Australia. 2006 Penfolds Grange 750ml
