This is all about a deep roasted, spiced plum note on the nose with tremendous sweetness and depth. On the palate the wine is fresher with a solid, tannic presence supporting dark, liquory black currant and black berry fruits. the finish show a spicy oaky tone with a long, linger layer of vanilla wrapping the olive scented dark fruits. A baby with a promising future. 92pts

Easily one of my favorite wines to date. The flavor is robust and well-balanced and the bottle can usually be found in the mid-$20's at BevMo. Definitely worth the cost.

Better after one day open. As my brother says, tasted like a whack in the face.

3. 2006 Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz – South Australia (14.5%) – [decanting], Color: very deep, can’t get any light through, Nose: pretty fantastic, oaky, almost cedar, very woody, blackberries, perhaps a bit of chocolate, Taste: woody in the mouth, a lot of chocolate in the finish, maybe like a chocolate covered strawberry or other fruit, zesty, a little espresso, light to mid tannins (thanks to the cab!), Lamarr: A- (Now, hold up. Just because I usually give wines higher grades than my peers does not mean that I’m easy in any way…a little drunk perhaps, but not of a lower standard. I give this a high grade because I am a fan. Rock on Penfolds, rock on). Hector: B+ (he likes vanilla in wines. Argues that this has wood, but not oak. I say he’s crazy) Alastor: B+ Margot: B+ (what’s with the b-pluses? Gah!)

A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon and 49% Shiraz the very deep purple-black colored 2011 Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz is a little youthfully mute showing cassis and black cherries on the nose alongside hints of pencil shavings licorice chocolate pepper and meat. More cedar flavor shows up in the firm and structured medium-bodied palate marked by a high level of grainy tannins a lively acid backbone and a long finish. It needs time in bottle. Drink 2015 to 2025+. 90+ - Lisa Perrotti-Brown Rob

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz displays pure cassis and black cherry cordial aromas underlying notes of aniseed, violets, pepper and chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is voluptuous and wonderfully balanced between

Flavors of stewed plum meshed with notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and peppercorns, well defined tannins and oak.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz displays pure cassis and black cherry cordial aromas underlying notes of aniseed, violets, pepper and chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is voluptuous and wonderfully balanced between vibrant acid and a medium level of fine tannins. It finishes long and spicy and shows ageing potential. Drink it from 2014 to 2022+.

Supple, focused, expressive and refined, with ripe black cherry, dark plum, coffee and savory spice notes that cascade into the long, fascinating finish. Drink now through 2020.

14 months in new American oak. TA 6.6 g/l pH 3.62. Super smooth beautiful poise. Subtle oak integration. Light spiciness. Faultlessly drinkable so appealing. It s sort of the antithesis of natural wine really controlled and with a shiny sheen. That s not a criticism but I could understand if some people thought it too normal . 17/20 (RH) Jancis Robinson.
