slightly bitter, smokey, dry
Big and bold, but slightly too tannic for my taste.
Great value. We use it as our table wine.
External Reviews for Penfolds Cabernet Sauvignon Koonunga Hill
Lithe and appealing for its gentleness, focusing its raspberry, currant and dusky herb flavors into a lovely beam that shines through a refined finish. Drink now through 2009.
Deep ruby. Smoky cherry and blueberry aromas are complicated by notes of licorice and espresso. Deep, chewy dark berry flavors are framed by supple tannins and given a bitter edge by anise and cherry pit qualities. Just a bit ungiving right now.
Firm in texture, with juicy currant and spice flavors, finishing on a peppery note. Drink now through 2009. 24,000 cases imported. Wine Spectator. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from South Australia in Australia. 2004 Penfolds Cabernet Sauvignon Koonunga Hill 375ml
Wine Tasting NotesDeep brick red. The nose is varietal, unmistakably Cabernet; black fruit aromas of cherry and blackcurrant with the PENFOLDS maturation character apparent. The palate is medium weight and well balanced with fig and quince flavors combining with the liveliness of dark berried fruits. Well handled, integrated oak provides firm, yet well balanced and supple tannins. A lovely sweet creamy mid palate adds length and texture to the finish.
