Penfolds Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 9 2012
91 points James Suckling: A new wine sitting below the 407 in the hierarchy, this has a very distinctive Cabernet nose with cassis and a red currant edge, leafy and gently stony, some juicy tannin and taut tangy Cabernet flesh. Quite approachable with the right amount of sturdy Penfolds styling overlaid. (3/10/14)

Focused savory flavors surround a lean, lithe core of black fruit and cocoa in this firm red, finishing with harmony and powdery tannins. Needs time to open up. Best from 2016 through 2020.
The medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2012 Bin 9 Cabernet Sauvignon had only just been bottled when tasted. It is intensely scented of fresh blackcurrants and blackberries with hints of pencil shavings, cloves and thyme. Medium-bodied and held up by a firm backbone of chewy tannins and crisp acid, the taut fruit finishes with good length, if a little overly herbal. 14,500 bottles were made. Drink it now to 2020+.
Opaque ruby. Classic cabernet scents of cassis, dried cherry, cured tobacco and cedary oak, plus a peppery topnote. Chewy in texture and light on its feet, offering bitter cherry and dark berry flavors and a touch of anise. A subtle herbal quality emerges with air and carries through the focused, youthfully tannic finish.
