Dense with juicy blackberry flavors, this has scents of black pepper and tar. The finish is clean and well knit. Serve it with lamb stew.
Firm in texture, with green olive-accented blackberry flavors, lingering against mildly chewy tannins. Drink now through 2011.
Nicely perfumed, with full-blast aromas of root beer and cola. The palate is a bit foresty, with tree bark and peppery notes. The finish is the first place you notice overt oak, and itrsquo;s kind of buttery and unintegrated. In Penfoldsrsquo; stable of Shiraz, this is meant to be round, friendly and not too complicated.
Dark ruby. Dark cherry, bitter chocolate, espresso and a hint of tar on the nose. Solid and firm on the palate, with slightly clenched blackberry and cassis flavors along with hints of dried tarragon and violet. Finishes stern and slightly hard, with the tannins currently cutting off the fruit flavors.
The deep ruby-colored 2001 Shiraz Thomas Hyland exhibits a concentrated bouquet of lard/bacon fat intermixed with black currant and blackberry fruit. It reveals a big mouthfeel, noticeable American oak, and a good finish. Drink it over the next 2ndash;3 years.
Velvety and harmonious, with modest currant and plum flavors mingling with mint and pepper as the finish lingers against fine tannins. Drink now through 2012.
A dark but not very mouthfilling wine. this Shiraz offers cherry and rhubarb aromas, and a sour plum-and-tree bark profile to the palate. With air, the fruit seems riper, and the wood nuances more noticeable.
A menacing and impenetrable black core. Classic Bin 28 fruits and maturation complexities. Satsuma conserve and a (very) faint cigar box background (oak or fruit ?). Aromas of a basking Sunday Roast and / or simmering Beef Bourgogne, shadowed by tumeric and dark Calamatta olive. Full-bodied. Assertive, but neither bullying with alcohol nor oak. Dense, great texture & layered - all bases covered. Blueberry Barossa fruits exposed - a la RWT! Christmas Cake mix or trifle? Perhaps the suggestion of brandy / custard favours the latter? The density, texture and depth of this wine is testament to the strength of the vintage.
