Penfold "Grange" 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

Penfolds' chief winemaker, Peter Gago, put the wine in the same league as the 'wonderful' 1990 and 1996 vintages. Not only has Gago praised the 2001 Grange but the average ranking by critics globally is 98 points so far. This really is a stupendous wine that will cellar for at least 2 decades.

Amazing! Not a huge fan of anything from Penfolds but this one was a bomb. Huge tannic monster that had some finess to it. Ive had a few vintages and all have kind of a sandpaper texture to it and this one had that in spades. A show stopper from down under!

I tasted a trial blend of the 2001 Grange. It looks to be a sensational vintage that should merit a mid-90 point score. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A Syrah wine from South Australia in Australia. 2001 Penfolds Grange 750ml

The pinnacle of Australian Shiraz, Grange is truly a world-class wine. Intense fruit character, rich and wonderfully balanced. It will keep improving for 20+ years.
