Pemberley Shiraz 2004
Full flavoured but elegantly structured, this Shiraz demonstrates the hallmarks of this style and region; medium bodied yet maintaining true elegance and varietal definition. Mt Barker (a sub region of the Great Southern) Western Australia is characterised by cold winters, warm summer days and cool summer nights. The soils on the vineyard are degraded granitic gravels that are some of the oldest soils in the world; this terroir coupled with old clone shiraz grown on its own roots produces some of the finest wines of this variety in Australia.

The 2004 Pemberley Shiraz has been bottle matured into a medium bodied velvety wine with black pepper and red berries, with touches of musk, cloves and leather. This is balanced by fine grain tannins, elegant oak characters and a long complex finish. I have been crafting the Mount Barker Shiraz since 1979. It is one of the best examples of Mount Barker Shiraz that I have had the privilege to make. The 2004 vintage ranks along with the wines from the 1986 and 1990 vintages.
