Peller Estates Oak Aged Vidal 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

This award-winning Icewine has a beautiful bronze gold colour with an aromatic bouquet of honey, sugared hazelnuts, sweet spice and tropical fruit. The luscious mouthfeel has explosive flavors of papaya, guava, gooseberry and melon with notes of exotic spice, marmalade and butterscotch lingering on the finish. An amazing concentration of acidity softens the sweetness of the wine and leaves a refreshing finish. Best enjoyed now through 2016. Serve chilled at 8 to 10°C in small white wine glasses, 1 to 2 oz per person. Enjoy before a meal, chilled with your favourite vodka and a couple of frozen grapes for an amazing Icewine Martini. During a meal with paté or foie gras; prosciutto and melon; Thai mango salad; or as a wonderful companion to spicy Asian cuisine or Indian curries. After a meal pair with fruit based desserts with apricots, pears, sweet citrus and tropical fruit; nut based cakes; Christmas cake; spiced fig cakes. For the cheese course, Icewine pairs with soft, blue veined cheese, creamy brie or aged cheddars.

It all began in 1927, when my grandfather, Andrew Peller, first arrived in Canada from Hungary. Having owned a series of successful businesses, he came here to finally pursue his dream. He envisioned a day when Canadians, like Europeans, would come to appreciate premium-quality wines and enjoy sharing them with family and friends. After exhaustive research, he decided to plant his first vineyards in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley and, soon afterwards, to open a modest winery in that province as well. As the seeds of his dream were firmly taking root out West, he began looking eastward. Many years and countless setbacks later, he and my father, Joe (who was by then very much involved in the family business), finally made a breakthrough. An offer to purchase a winery and winemaking license in Ontario was accepted in the spring of 1969. Read less
