Peju Province Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2006
This vintage reveals a lovely nose with aromas of dark black cherry, bittersweet chocolate and hints of bay leaf. On the palate, the dark garnet wine is rich and concentrated with layers of plum, holiday spice, tobacco and dark cocoa. Velvety tannins provide a long, memorable finish.
It's a smooth drink, typical of the area.
Not quite the mouthfeel I was looking for, but think it will need a few more years to develop. Harsh tannins initially but mellowed in the open bottle after about an hour. I don't think cab is Peju's star.
Good wine. Hints of earth and tabacco. Rich taste and very good with steak.
A very amiable wine, a Labrador puppy, all fun and tail wagging and quite accessible. Juicy, plummy and earthy with a dash of smoke/licorice it coats the mouth and doesnt let go for a good long time. The "now through 2010" is a bit short though, it is now 2011 and having enjoyed adequate cellaring, it is drinking superbly still and will continue to do so for at least another couple of years- if you can hold off that long. I wouldnt expect much more improvement tho.
Four and a half glasses
