Peju Province Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2005
Our 2005 vintage reveals a lovely nose with aromas of dark black cherry, bittersweet chocolate and hints of bay leaf. On the palate, the dark garnet wine is rich and concentrated with layers of plum, holiday spice, tobacco and dark cocoa. Velvety tannins provide a long, memorable finish.
Tons of currant fruit on the tip of the tongue. Some anise spice. Very light on the tannins and the acid. A likeable and easy wine to drink, but not a great expression of a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
There are wines for everyone but it appears that this wine is not for me. I got nothing from it. Aroma of black cherry but I felt it had no tannin or finished bland. Again, maybe a bottle open too long?
I am enjoying a glass of the 05 cab right now. It has a subtle nose, but pleasing nonetheless. As it crosses the mid palate, it delivers hints of licorice and modest earthier tones. It is a viscous wine, but oddly enough feels a little thin on the tongue. This wine will likely be better in a couple of years. BTW, if you ever have the opportunity to visit Peju, ask for Alan Aranapole, aka the yodelmeister. You will not be disappointed!
Must say it's pretty yummy
