Classic nose, brett, garrigue, confiture of red currant and cherry, smoke, this finally shows some classic cndp body. There’s nice cut on the palate and a solid core of fruit, with good persistence on the palate. Lovely bitter cherry notes on the finish, then some added complexity with spices and herbs. Fully resolved and ready to go with a certain black gloss to the fruit. A bit chunky. And it turns dry with air. 88pts

The nose leapt from the glass showing black pepper up front with ripe black fruits and mixed herbs. On the palate, it was expansive and palate-coating with ripe fruits, pepper and structure showing through. The fruit wrapped around the palate and filled the senses. The finish continued to show its structure, yet it couldn’t stop the palate-soaking fruits from marching on.

Winemaker's Notes:

97 points Rhone Report: The 1998 Domaine du Pegau Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Laurence is a beauty (and outshone the Cuvee da Capo on this showing) and displays thrilling aromatics of deep black fruits, meat, leather, licorice, and the hallmark spice and funk that only comes from Pegau. Intense, and yet deep and layered on the nose, the wine doesn't lose a beat on the palate with a rugged, full bodied feel, loads of texture, fantastic depth and concentration on the mid-palate, and a long, chewy finish that just keeps going. A great showing, this probably has two decades or prime drinking. Wow. (Mar 2011)
