Pegasus Bay Riesling Waipara 2007
The aromas and flavours invoke impressions of ripe stone fruits, such as nectarines and peaches, supported by hints of tropical spices, passionfruit and lycees. There is a backbone of tangy lime- and lemonlike citrus fruits which add a zesty “nervosity”. It has a spine of minerality and crisp acidity which keep it tight-knit and focussed, drying out its lingering after-taste.
Sensational, a beautiful integrated late harvest style, a touch of spice and grapefruit marmalade and toast characters. Low alcohol, with the sweetness balanced by a crisp acidity makes this a very approachable aperitif wine. It has the strength of character to be matched with a range of foods. The 2001 tasted in 2009 had mellowed significantly, but integrated well, with toasty brioche flavours at the fore.
