Pedroncelli Zinfandel Sonoma County Rosé 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Over the years, the approach has been refined when it comes to the style of our Zin Rosé. The accent on crisp acidity and true varietal character is just enough to let the fresh Zinfandel flavors shine. After ensuring that sufficient flavor and color had been extracted from the berries, free run juice was drawn from the tanks after a 24-hour soak. The fermenting juice is finished like a white wine, in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. In order to achieve its’ off-dry style, the winemaker stops the fermentation before the wine is completely dry, leaving the residual sugar level at .80% – just enough sweetness to give a full, fruity flavor with a great acid balance to give a crisp and tart finish.

Since 1927, when John Pedroncelli, Sr. purchased vineyard and a small winery in Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley, two elements remain unchanged: the exceptional place the Pedroncelli family farms vineyards, and the family's dedication to making fine wines. John Pedroncelli began his winemaking career as a child working side by side with his father, John Sr. learning from the ground up. After World War II and his service in the US Coast Guard, he graduated from Santa Rosa Junior College and then attended many winemaking classes at University of California at Davis. John’s style is Pedroncelli’s style—wines that are flavorful and balanced to reflect the region’s characteristics—he allows the wines to speak for themselves. As a family winery who has farmed for 80 years in the Dry Creek Valley, we want the next generations to be able to continue farming in an environmentally sensitive way. The most important statement we can make about our wine is that we are here for the long term and protecting the environment is one way we will achieve that goal. At Pedroncelli Winery, we practice sustainable winegrowing and, over the years, we have been reducing water use, building healthy soil, and protecting the vineyard environment. This is a comprehensive approach to vineyard management that involves all aspects of farming including human resources, viticulture, soil management, water management, pest management, habitat management, and wine quality. Wine Tasting NotesMade in my favorite style of Ros wines - just off-dry. Fruity strawberry and raspberry flavors are highlighted in this crisp, enjoyable wine. Because we pick the Zinfandel fully ripe, all the fruitiness comes directly from the grapes! I particularly enjoy this wine with tossed salads, light chicken dishes or BBQ chicken and it matches well with salmon or prawns, even oysters!
