Pedroncelli Sangiovese Dry Creek Valley Alto Vineyards 2000

Winemaker's Notes:

With experience and a distinctive style in mind, John Pedroncelli knows where to best plant this unique varietal and then harvest the fruit at optimum ripeness. The grapes were crushed into stainless steel fermentors and fermented for 6 days. The cap was pumped over periodically to enhance the color, flavor and intensity in the wine. The Sangiovese was aged in American oak barrels for twelve months and developed additional smoothness and complexity through this process. One thing we do differently with the Sangiovese is to age it in older barrels to allow the delicate and subtle fruit flavors to shine through.

Since 1927, when John Pedroncelli, Sr. purchased vineyard and a small winery in Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley, two elements remain unchanged: the exceptional place the Pedroncelli family farms vineyards, and the family's dedication to making fine wines. John Pedroncelli began his winemaking career as a child working side by side with his father, John Sr. learning from the ground up. After World War II and his service in the US Coast Guard, he graduated from Santa Rosa Junior College and then attended many winemaking classes at University of California at Davis. John’s style is Pedroncelli’s style—wines that are flavorful and balanced to reflect the region’s characteristics—he allows the wines to speak for themselves. As a family winery who has farmed for 80 years in the Dry Creek Valley, we want the next generations to be able to continue farming in an environmentally sensitive way. The most important statement we can make about our wine is that we are here for the long term and protecting the environment is one way we will achieve that goal. At Pedroncelli Winery, we practice sustainable winegrowing and, over the years, we have been reducing water use, building healthy soil, and protecting the vineyard environment. This is a comprehensive approach to vineyard management that involves all aspects of farming including human resources, viticulture, soil management, water management, pest management, habitat management, and wine quality. Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Tasting Notes:

Very aromatic and fruity nose. Wild cherry, red raspberry. The wine opens to a small amount of toastiness, laced with caramel undertones. Full mouth with slight chalky but full tannins. Awonderful example of California style Sangiovese.
