Pedroncelli Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley Morris Fay Vineyard 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Deep garnet red in color, our Morris Fay Cabernet Sauvignon is rich in aromas of cherry, plum, and toasty oak. Forward tannins create richness on the palate followed by long-lasting spice and fruit flavors lingering on the finish. This Cabernet typifies the rich, spicier flavors of Alexander Valley fruit. Ready to drink now or cellar for 10 more years.

Since 1927, when John Pedroncelli, Sr. purchased vineyard and a small winery in Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley, two elements remain unchanged: the exceptional place the Pedroncelli family farms vineyards, and the family's dedication to making fine wines. John Pedroncelli began his winemaking career as a child working side by side with his father, John Sr. learning from the ground up. After World War II and his service in the US Coast Guard, he graduated from Santa Rosa Junior College and then attended many winemaking classes at University of California at Davis. John’s style is Pedroncelli’s style—wines that are flavorful and balanced to reflect the region’s characteristics—he allows the wines to speak for themselves. As a family winery who has farmed for 80 years in the Dry Creek Valley, we want the next generations to be able to continue farming in an environmentally sensitive way. The most important statement we can make about our wine is that we are here for the long term and protecting the environment is one way we will achieve that goal. At Pedroncelli Winery, we practice sustainable winegrowing and, over the years, we have been reducing water use, building healthy soil, and protecting the vineyard environment. This is a comprehensive approach to vineyard management that involves all aspects of farming including human resources, viticulture, soil management, water management, pest management, habitat management, and wine quality. To achieve complexity, the Pedroncelli family uses Cabernet from three vineyard areas in this excellent blend. Fruit from Dry Creekrsquo;s western slope provides spice and intensity. From the warm northern slopes, the wine gains deep, sumptuous plum notes. For structure and aging potential, it depends on fruit from the cooler southwestern benchland. Taken together, they make Three Vineyards a classic Sonoma Cabernet.

The Pedroncelli family has been growing and making wine in the Dry Creek Valley since the turn of the century, offering well-priced and varietally true wines with some character. This supple cabernet is ready to drink, with cherry fruit, clove and cinnamon spice and a round mouthfeel. Itrsquo;s quite food friendly, even with vegetarian dishes such as a cheese enchilada with a salsa rojo.

Herersquo;s a bone-dry, somewhat lean Cabernet. It has tobacco and blackberry flavors, framed in rich, furry tannins. Quite a nice sipper for drinking now with grilled steaks and chops.

Bright red-purple. Medium-bodied. Highly extracted. Moderately tannic. Red fruits, mineral. Mineral and red-fruits aromas lead a dry palate, with fine-grained tannins showing on the finish. Youthful, vibrant style.

A solid choice for any Cabernet drinker, it has a lot of ripe berry flavors combining for a gentle flavor. It is not too acidic, however it is not a small wine. The wine is aged in oak and thus has received a perfect amount of woodiness from the aging process. Nothing in this wine is overpowering.
