Pedroncelli Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley Morris Fay Vineyard 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

The fruit was harvested over two days at the end of September, 2003. Following fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine was transferred to medium toast French and American oak barrels to age for fifteen months. This length of time gave the wine a chance to develop smoother tannins and take on a subtle spiciness from the oak. Bottled and cellared for just over one year before its release, the wine is ready to drink now or age for ten or more years in the cellar.

Since 1927, when John Pedroncelli, Sr. purchased vineyard and a small winery in Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley, two elements remain unchanged: the exceptional place the Pedroncelli family farms vineyards, and the family's dedication to making fine wines. John Pedroncelli began his winemaking career as a child working side by side with his father, John Sr. learning from the ground up. After World War II and his service in the US Coast Guard, he graduated from Santa Rosa Junior College and then attended many winemaking classes at University of California at Davis. John’s style is Pedroncelli’s style—wines that are flavorful and balanced to reflect the region’s characteristics—he allows the wines to speak for themselves. As a family winery who has farmed for 80 years in the Dry Creek Valley, we want the next generations to be able to continue farming in an environmentally sensitive way. The most important statement we can make about our wine is that we are here for the long term and protecting the environment is one way we will achieve that goal. At Pedroncelli Winery, we practice sustainable winegrowing and, over the years, we have been reducing water use, building healthy soil, and protecting the vineyard environment. This is a comprehensive approach to vineyard management that involves all aspects of farming including human resources, viticulture, soil management, water management, pest management, habitat management, and wine quality. Tasting Notes:

“Deep ruby red in color, our Morris Fay Cabernet Sauvignon is rich in aromas of ripe cherry, nutmeg, and toasty oak. Forward tannins create richness on the palette followed by long-lasting spice and berry flavors lingering on the finish. This Cabernet typifies the richer, spicier flavors of Alexander Valley fruit.”
