Pecorino Offida DOC Saladini Pilastri 2007

Member Review by Banker Bob:

I really enjoyed this white as it was much richer and bodied than a typical pinot grigio or gris. A little more rounded and less acidic than an orvieto. I thought it was nicely complex and I picked up nice white fruits of pear and green apple with a buttery nut flavor. Bought it to make a risotto dish and was very pleased with it. I think I found a white that I might actually start to drink as I typically drink mostly reds.

Save 47% During Our Black Friday Weekend Sale! Saladini Pilastri was the first winery in the Piceno area to achieve the prestigious Tre Bicchieri award from Italy's wine bible, the Gambero Rosso. All the winemaking is overseen by celebrated enologist Alberto Antonini. All of the farming is done without the use of chemical fertilizers and the winery is recognized by the EU as organic. Wine Advocate raves about the wines, perpetually scoring them 90 and above. Pecorino means sheep in Italian. The Pecorino grape is so named because when the grazing sheep get into the vineyard this local varietal is the only grape they eat. Pale straw colored it has an intense, fragrant nose of tropical fruits. Full bodied with bright acidity, showing flavors of yellow fruits, ground ginger, white pepper, almonds and hazelnuts. The structure is firm with a marked note of minerality. Expires 11/29 at 11:59 PM ET 15% Case discount not valid on Black Friday Sale wines.
