Peconic Bay Winery Riesling North Fork 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2006 growing season imbued this wine with an aromoatci character not seen in past vintages. The elements of this wine are the same attributes seen in the Rieslings that the granitic soils of France's Alsace region produce. The residual sugar in the wine resulting in arresting the fermentation by chilling the juice before dryness. This technique yields a higher level of the sugar fructose in the finished wine that enhances the mouthfeel and apparent sweetness.

The grapes, the progeny of the soil, are the key to any successful winer y. At Peconic Bay Winery, we have been entrusted with the care and nurturing of some of the oldest vines on the North Fork, a precious legacy. These fine assets, in the hands of individuals passionate about coaxing the best from the vine and the cellar, set the stage at our vineyard for the creation of premium varietal wines. We are committed to making wines of distinction from rolling acres of vineyards, sloping gently down to the Peconic Bay and rising majestically up to the Long Island Sound, in this bucolic corner of heaven known as the North Fork. We hope to make the experience of tasting our wines enjoyable and memorable for both the connoisseur and those with a more casual appreciation of wine. We look forward to welcoming you at Peconic Bay Winery on the Main Road in Cutchogue. Our wines are the product of the soil and mild climate of Cutchogue, Long Island, the town with the most days of sunshine and the longest growing season in New York State. Read less

It pours an extremely pale yellow with a subtle greenish tint. Floral aromas lead on the nose along with ripe pears and lemons. Secondary flavors of pineapple and even a little petrol add complexity and personality. On the palate, it is medium bodied and seems a bit bigger than previous vintages, with loads of ripe, juicy pear and citrus flavors balanced by tongue-tingling, minerally acidity. The clean, lingering finish is highlighted by a citrusy-floral note at the very end that invites sip after sip.
