Peconic Bay Winery Merlot North Fork Oregon Hills Reserve 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

Winemaker Tasting Notes: This wine is an example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. The Merlot contributes soft plum, chocolate and smooth tannins. The Cabernet lends the wine upfront blackberry aromas and enhances the length of the finish. The combination of these two yields a third significant character that I associate with "roundness". The perception is that the wine is full and supple. There are no holes in the palate. This is an excellent food wine. I would pair it with a sirloin steak in Portobello reduction sauce using some of this wine as the base. Peconic Bay wines are the product of the soil and mild climate of the North Fork of Long Island, benefiting from the most days of sunshine and the longest growing season in New York State. Technical Notes: Appellation: North Folk of Long Island Harvest Date: 10/22/01 Brix: 23 pH: 3.32 TA: 7.2g/l Alcohol: 12.5% Bottling date: 8/10/04 Production: 424 cases » Return to Peconic Bay Wine List

The grapes, the progeny of the soil, are the key to any successful winer y. At Peconic Bay Winery, we have been entrusted with the care and nurturing of some of the oldest vines on the North Fork, a precious legacy. These fine assets, in the hands of individuals passionate about coaxing the best from the vine and the cellar, set the stage at our vineyard for the creation of premium varietal wines. We are committed to making wines of distinction from rolling acres of vineyards, sloping gently down to the Peconic Bay and rising majestically up to the Long Island Sound, in this bucolic corner of heaven known as the North Fork. We hope to make the experience of tasting our wines enjoyable and memorable for both the connoisseur and those with a more casual appreciation of wine. We look forward to welcoming you at Peconic Bay Winery on the Main Road in Cutchogue. Blended with 75% 2001 Merlot and 25% 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is an example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. The Merlot contributes soft plum, chocolate and smooth tannins. The Cabernet lends the wine upfront blackberry aromas and enhances the length of the finish. The combination of these two yields a third significant character that is associated with "roundness", resulting in a wine that is full and supple. This is an excellent food wine. This wine pairs wonderfully with Pate and cheeses like Stilton, Gorgonzola or a rich Farmhouse Cheddar and just about anything off the grill.
