Peconic Bay Winery Merlot Blend North Fork Nautique Esprit de Rouge

Member Review by aronowm2:

This is red wine. It goes well with meat. It tastes like grapes. Seriously though it went pretty well with smoked pork chops. The nose is much better than the palate. The nose is full of evergreen and pine needles. The palate was extra medium. Meaning it was nondescript.

The grapes, the progeny of the soil, are the key to any successful winer y. At Peconic Bay Winery, we have been entrusted with the care and nurturing of some of the oldest vines on the North Fork, a precious legacy. These fine assets, in the hands of individuals passionate about coaxing the best from the vine and the cellar, set the stage at our vineyard for the creation of premium varietal wines. We are committed to making wines of distinction from rolling acres of vineyards, sloping gently down to the Peconic Bay and rising majestically up to the Long Island Sound, in this bucolic corner of heaven known as the North Fork. We hope to make the experience of tasting our wines enjoyable and memorable for both the connoisseur and those with a more casual appreciation of wine. We look forward to welcoming you at Peconic Bay Winery on the Main Road in Cutchogue. Our wines are the product of the soil and mild climate of Cutchogue, Long Island, the town with the most days of sunshine and the longest growing season in New York State. Read less

Ordered this wine at Dovetail in NYC, to see how well it complimented a diverse array of main courses. At first the wine was a bit harsh, but as it opened up, it proved to a fun wine to try that ended up being a beautiful choice next to some hard cheeses rather than with all of our entrées. The price is very friendly as well, and I recommend trying out a wine from this producer if you're in Metro New York.

The warm 2007 vintage provides the ripe tannins which yield a soft mouthfeel. The slightly cooler 2008 vintage adds fruit forward appeal. The resulting wine possesses both structure and balance.
