Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux Red Bordeaux Chateau Margaux Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Chвteau Margaux, a Premier Grand Cru Classй Bordeaux, is one of the most famous wines in the world. The wine itself is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Care has been lavished on the property by a line of owners with an abiding concern for the reputation of the estate. For more than five hundred years, season after season, generations of vineyard-workers, grapeharvesters, cellar-workers, coopers and many other craftsmen have all played a part in making Chвteau Margaux what it is today: a wine with an incomparable personality, reflected in the elegant Palladian building which adorns its label. In 1977, the estate was purchased by the late Andrй Mentzelopoulos, and it is now run by his daughter, Corinne Mentzelopoulos.

Smooth and well-balanced. My first Château Margaux, and I only had one glass. Cannot say that I understand why this wine would be 10 to 15 times the price of other good Margaux wines, but it is surely a wonderful wine. Drank it too young, I know... but it was served by the château, and beggars can't be choosers.

Good deep red-ruby. Deep but reticent aromas of redcurrant tobacco leaf licorice and loam; I don t find the typical floral high notes of Margaux. Juicy fine-grained and suave with good definition and a seamless spherical texture to the currant and soil flavors. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins but not the grip or power of earlier barrel samples of this wine. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

A sexy vintage of Margaux this is heady and seductive right from the start. Floral strawberry and red currant flavors back the wine s gentle sweetness while floral acidity gives it a sting. Black tannins hint at more serious long-term prospects though much of the vintage may get drunk before it has a chance to reach any deeper more essential terroir expression. Wine & Spirits.

It is worth noting that when the bottled 2006 Chateau Margaux which appeared closed and less impressive than I had predicted from barrel was retasted alongside the remarkable 2008 I elevated my score to 94+. It does not possess the size or power of the 2008 or 2005 but the 2006 exhibits impressive density a deeper color and the beautifully textured pure style that is a hallmark of this estate. Moreover it is relatively precocious and can be drunk now or cellared for 25+ years. Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

This has a wonderful nose of perfume, sandalwood, ripe plum and berries. Full-bodied, with seamless tannins and a long finish. Gorgeous. Best after 2015. -JS Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2006 Margaux, Chateau 750ml

There are nearly 1200 cases of the 2006 Ermitage Le Pavillon. Since Michel Chapoutier released his first full vintage, 1989, of this single vineyard Hermitage, it has been one of the great wines of both France and the world. The 1989 and 1990 remain very young wines (I had them over the holiday break and was amazed by their still youthful personalities.). The inky/purple-hued 2006 exhibits a gorgeous perfume of crushed rocks, white flowers, creme de cassis, blackberries, graphite, and a subtle touch of oak. Exceptionally full-bodied, multilayered in concentration, extraordinarily pure, and long, this is a prodigious young Hermitage that should be at its finest between 2018-2050+. RP

Very powerful and rich. Fantastic. Full, silky and structured. Yet layered and rich, with loads of mineral, violet and coffee character. Incredible. So much finesse in the nose. What a wine. Similar to the 1995, which received 100 points. —J.S. Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2006 Margaux, Chateau 1500ml
