RP: The best second wine yet made by Chateau Margaux is undoubtedly the 2005 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux, a blend of nearly 50% Merlot and the rest primarily Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Petit Verdot. Extremely rich in color, flesh, fruit, and glycerin, this amazingly opulent, full-bodied effort tips the scales at 14% alcohol ... a full degree higher than its grander sibling. Serious consumers should consider purchasing this gorgeous offering.
RP: Margauxs second wine gets better with each vintage. The 2005 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux (200,000 bottles produced) is an equal part blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with a hefty alcohol content. Fleshy, opulent, and nearly decadent, with terrific fruit, a creamy texture, and supple tannin, it can be enjoyed over the next 12-15+ years.
This delicious Shiraz Grenache recently won Blue-Gold at Sydney's 2007 wine show. Aromas of cherry, raspberry, flowers, chocolate, spice and a certain savoury minerally dried herb character that is most attractive. Touch of flyspray. On the palate medium bodied with raspberry, cherry, chocolate, spice and dried herb flavours. Fine lightly sandy tannins. Strikes a good balance between sweet fruit and more leathery savoury flavours and has no obvious alcoholic kick. Finishes dry with good length of flavour. High drinkability.

48% Cabernet Sauvgnon, 48% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot. Thick glass coating of purple / red. Rich Bing cherry, chocolate, coffee, rasberry, hints of sour cherry and spice on the nose. Dense, lush and full with big tannins. New oak, rasberry and bitte... Mike Supple. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2005 Margaux, Pavillon Rouge du Chateau 3000ml
The '05 includes a very high percentage of opulent, powerful Merlot at 48% while Cabernets accounted for an equal amount, with Petit Verdot at 4%. The chateau says that it 'is the richest Pavillon Rouge, both in alcohol and tannins, that we have ever produced.' Dense red with purple. Very lovely, pure red and black fruit aroma and a palate that has perfect focus and equilibrium. Finishes with firm yet ripe tannins. Actually has more alcohol than Chateau Margaux (14 vs 13 degrees), but its power is concealed at this stage. A very exciting wine which stands on its own. Robert Parker 91, Wine Spectator 92.
