Pavie Macquin Rosé St-Emilion 2009

Member Review by dynowine:

Rose style lies somewhere between the white fruit and berry fruit (darker) styles. Light notes of candied berry fruit and melon on the nose. Decent acid on the attack, still, an elegant and gentle rose with nice balance and hints of spice underlying the red berry fruit (strawberry) and melon. Seems to be missing the "wet steel" acidity I personally like in some S. French Roses. Dry to off-dry. Body medium, acid medium.

Terroirs are the expression of a place, a witness to history. Infinitely rich and varied, their complexity is expressed through their biological, geological, topographical and climatic characteristics. Precious and fragile, they are the greatest thing that nature offers us and they cannot be imitated. Their quality is an irreplaceable ingredient in the production of great wines. To produce great wines in the image of a terroir: the idea is simple but the practice requires patience and humility. Pavie Macquin, this eponymous chateau, finds the key to its history in one man, Albert Macquin (1852-1911). It is to him that Saint Emilion owes the idea of grafting vines onto rootstocks, thereby saving the region from ruin by phylloxera. Henri Enjalbert wrote, “During more than thirty years, Albert Macquin was the master of the transformation of the vineyards of Saint Emilion”. The current owners of the chateau are his grandchildren: Benoit and Bruno Corre, Marie-Jacques Charpentier and their children. They have shown, like their ancestor, a great attachment to this admirable terroir. Read less
