Paumanok Assemblage 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

"With 12% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot and 38% each of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, Massoud's 2004 Assemblage seems to incorporate in its aromatic panoply the resin and blueberry typical of Petit Verdot (never before used here) as well as licorice and diverse black fruits. Dense and intense on the palate, this full-bodied wine will, I suspect, need at least another year before it shows its real personality. An impressively long, low-toned finish offers great promise. (David Schildknecht 88-91 pts) "

Founded in the spring of 1983, our 103 acre estate is entirely owned and managed by Ursula and Charles Massoud, and our three sons. Born and raised in the "Old World", wine has always been a part of our lives and we continue the tradition at Paumanok Vineyards. Only premium vinifera grapevines are planted, consisting of Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The traditional dense planting of the vineyards at 1100 vines per acre produces more concentrated fruit and therefore higher quality wines. For our wines, only estate grown grapes are used and production is limited to fewer than 9000 cases. Read less

Dark fruit and spice with a pleasant medium tannin bite. Long pleasant finish.

2nd bottle - very meaty, earthy with a real animal smell. Nice, but not typical meritage stuff. Very burgundian

An earthy nose, very licoricey. Lots of dark baked fruits and earth notes - a real left bank bordeaux style wine. Very meaty.
