Paulinshof Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Spatlese 2011

External Review by Great Wines Direct:

Classic Riesling aromas on the nose, beautiful balance of medium sweetness, playful but structured acidity and low alcohol. Very long and fine finish. This small, family-owned producer in the town of Kesten on the banks of the Mosel River is redolent with history: the ecclesiastical St-Paulin estate was involved in vine growing as early as AD 936, records suggest.Since the 1960s, the Junglings have worked nine hectares of the famed Brauneberger Juffer estate, which combines the ideal topography with classic Devon slate soils, venerable Riesling vines and small yields to produce wines of sublime quality.Grapes: 100% RieslingRegion: Germany / Mosel / KestenMaker: Klaus and Oliver JunglingNotes: Pale lemon yellow. Minerals, lemons and a hint of classic Riesling hydrocarbon aromas on the nose. Beautiful balance of medium sweetness, playful but structured acidity and low alcohol. Very long finish. Very fine.Serve: At 10-12c it is excellent on its own or with foods with a mixture of sweetness and savoury. Thai prawns in a sweet chili sauceABV: 7.5%Suitable for Vegetarians

Since the late 1960s Paulinshof is in possession of family Jüngling as well as some of the finest vineyards of the middle mosel - Kestener Paulinshofberger, Kestener Paulinsberg, Kestener Herrenberg, Trittenheimer Apotheke, Brauneberger Juffer, Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr and the Brauneberger Kammer, which is in the sole possession of Paulinshof. These steep, slate-rich, river valley hillsides cause a low yield and are the main reason for the outstanding quality of Paulinshof Riesling which is certified by numerous awards every year.
