Tight on the nose and not showing much. Vigorous coaxing yields a touch of peppery, gamy fruit with a growing vein of violet. On entry, this shows a rich yet fairly elegant texture. Seamless with lovely ripe fruits, wild berries, earth and some old wood spice that is subtle and layered, leading to a nice blueberry note on the back end. The finish is fairly long and again shows some old wood layered with fine wild blueberry fruit tones and some gentle, nutty and juniper-driven spice notes. The finish begins to show fine complexity with air: sour plums, smoke and cutting acids, all revealing themselves one at a time. A bit more open knit than I would like given the relatively reticent aromatics, but this is showing fine balance and detailed fresh fruit character. 90pts

The nose showed cherries in fresh turned soil, with notes of undergrowth, candle wax, minerals and floral stems. On the palate it was lean, showing tight blackberry fruit, herbs and hints of stone. The finish was long, with red fruits clinging on the mid-palate. This wine closed in on itself and took six hours, open in bottle, to really show its virtues.

As grand as Chateauneuf can be, this is simultaneously huge and graceful. The fruit feels as if it was infused with stones, and hints of rosemary and other resinous herbs work their way into the berry flavors, which feel juicy, more savory than sweet. The wines acidity and minerality keep it lively right through the long finish- as they wold with a rack of lamb. A very direct style, with rather proper plum and currant fruit framed by notes of cedar and black tea. This has good grip and depth, but seems shy on overall range. Drink now through 2012. 200 cases imported. -JM ** Only 10 in Stock **

Winemaker's Notes:

Vivid ruby color. Highly perfumed bouquet of red berries, clove, violet and incense, with a subtle bacon fat quality. Sharply focused red berry flavors show surprising depth, with silky tannins adding spine. Turns sweeter on the finish, picking up darker cassis and licorice character and clinging with great tenacity. A more feminine style than the 2006 and likely to offer earlier appeal.- Stephen Tanzer
