Paul Hobbs Winery sprouted from the passion of one man: Paul Hobbs. Paul wasn’t satisfied just becoming Head Enologist of Robert Mondavi’s Opus One in 1981, or becoming Vice-President/Winemaker of Simi Winery in 1989. No, he wanted to create his very own grapes, on his own land. This passion led to the creation of Paul Hobbs Winery in 1991. Focused in the Russian River Valley, each harvest is meticulously captured so as to extract the very best from each grape. This passion started with only three wines in the winery’s repertoire: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon, but the winery quickly grew to produce over a dozen wines. Today, Paul Hobbs still consults other wineries around the globe, including wineries in Chile, Argentina, and Hungary. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Although this may be a popular style of Pinot Noir, this is not for me. This wine displays cola and dark cherry jam flavors. It is a full flavored style of Pinot Noir with ample body and alcohol. There is some heat on the finish that I don't like.

Firm, rich and concentrated, with a wonderful purity of fruit, built around black cherry, plum and blueberry fruit. Finishes with a dash of cedary oak, but the fruit still holds center stage. Drink now through 2010.

WA (90-93)pts. - Winemaker Notes - A deep, garnet hue provides a striking prelude to an aromatic symphony of black raspberry, vanilla and fresh-baked brioche. The palate, silky and well-balanced, weaves together fresh-picked blackberry, dark red cherry and anise with floral notes. Plum and boysenberry harmonize with Darjeeling tea over the long, expressive finish supported by firm, round tannins.

The dark plum/ruby-hued 2009 Pinot Noir Russian River exhibits dusty, earthy notes of raspberries, black cherries, cinnamon and Allspice. Medium-bodied with sweet tannins, this impressive 2009 should drink well for 4-6 years. - Robert Parker 90-93 Points A deep, garnet hue provides a striking prelude to an aromatic symphony of black raspberry, vanilla and fresh-baked brioche. The 2009 Pinot Noir CrossBarn is a selection from Sonoma Coast vineyards. Sweet, gamey, autumnal, vegetative notes intermixed with plum sauce, black cherries, flowers and root vegetables.

Perfumed and supple, with rich black cherry, blackberry, floral and spice, gaining depth and nuance. Ends with tight, chewy tannins. Best to cellar. Best from 2013 through 2022.

Bright ruby. High-pitched aromas of raspberry, cherry-cola, allspice and rose. Silky, gently sweet and focused, with very good depth and intense, floral-accented red fruit character. Silky tannins add focus and shape. This suave wine drinks very well right now.

Deep red. Spicy cherry and black raspberry on the nose, plus a hint of dried rose. Fleshy and smooth in texture, with deep dark berry flavors and a late jolt of smoky minerals. Finishes sweet and smooth, leaving floral and mineral notes behind. Pretty sexy and delicious right now.
