Paul Hobbs Pinot Noir Carneros Hyde Vineyard 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Advocate Review Rated 88-90 The 2008 Pinot Noir Russian River exhibits lots of spice box and roasted herb characteristics, and is a slightly more narrowly constructed wine than the 2007. Nevertheless, it possesses good fruit, and should provide enjoyable drinking for 4-5 years. Wine Tasting Notes The color is deep, rich maroon. The nose offers aromas of ripe plum and cherry scented with black tea and cedar. The generous, silky palate welcomes you with luxuriant flavors of black cherry, cola, apple pastry and plum, beautifully woven with notes of dusty rose and warm space. Toasty oak and firm, well-integrated tannins mark its long finish.

Paul Hobbs Winery sprouted from the passion of one man: Paul Hobbs. Paul wasn’t satisfied just becoming Head Enologist of Robert Mondavi’s Opus One in 1981, or becoming Vice-President/Winemaker of Simi Winery in 1989. No, he wanted to create his very own grapes, on his own land. This passion led to the creation of Paul Hobbs Winery in 1991. Focused in the Russian River Valley, each harvest is meticulously captured so as to extract the very best from each grape. This passion started with only three wines in the winery’s repertoire: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon, but the winery quickly grew to produce over a dozen wines. Today, Paul Hobbs still consults other wineries around the globe, including wineries in Chile, Argentina, and Hungary. Read less

Almost a new car leather tone on the nose, as well as wild raspberry, anise and blackberry with spice and touches of mineral and sage. The palate is full of dark sage-laced fruit. Very nice herbaceousness to this wine. - Tasted at Marché bacchus 10/2/10

Managed to get only one bottle of this fabulous '08 Pinot Noir from our future son-in-law for my birthday. We celebrated by pouring this for our daughter, Pam and Matt when he proposed. Only problem it was only a glass apiece! Also had the '09 at a dinner and was almost as good!

Bright ruby at the core that is slightly lighter at the rim. The nose is very floral with notes of rose petal and lavender. WA 94pts. - According to the Wine Advocate: The brilliant 2008 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard is one of the finest Pinots I tasted from the 2008 vintage. Made from the Pommard and Calera clones, it exhibits a dark, saturated plum/ruby/purple-tinged color as well as an enormous bouquet of plums, soy, forest floor, black cherries and black currants, stunning, full-bodied, rich fruit and a supple, luscious finish. This decadent, full-throttle Pinot Noir can be consumed over the next decade or more.

Full-bodied, complex, vibrant, focused, intense and persistent. Drink now through 2016. 3,644 cases made. -JL Fragrant with ripe raspberry and holiday spice, this ruby-hued pinot noir is bursting with Russian River Valley character. Its firmly structured, silky palate unfolds in a tightly-knit weave of Bing cherry and blackberry with hints of Darjeeling tea and cardamom. Subtle earthiness adds depth and is balanced by bright acidity that punctuates a lengthy finish. Alcohol 14.6%

Delivers a complex range of flavors, with cola, raspberry, mocha, herb and earth notes. Balanced and full-bodied, this gains richness and depth on the finish, though it loses focus slightly. Drink now through 2010.
