A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 2006 Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard 750ml
Inky ruby. Highly perfumed aromas of blackberry, cassis, black pepper and licorice. Broad, sweet and lush, with a strong spicy character to the juicy blackberry and spicecake flavors. As deep and fleshy as this is, it also delivers energetic cut. Very long on the finish, with silky, seamless tannins lending focus.
Notable for its richness, intensity, focus and persistence, this full-bodied red shows spicy currant, black cherry and wild berry fruit that's supple and layered, yet light on its feet, with gentle tannins. Drink now through 2016.
Ruby-red. Bright red berry and cherry aromas are complemented by dusty rose and mineral notes. Sweet raspberry and cherry flavors are smooth in texture and supported by fine-grained tannins. The red fruit notes linger impressively on the precise finish.
Hobbs is inspired by traditional French winemaking techniques, focusing on single-vineyard wines, natural years, and barrel fermentation with aging on the lees. His wines are Burgundian in style; deliciously complex and elegant wine a range of fruit, nut and spice flavors.
The least expensive effort is the opaque purple-colored 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa. A blockbuster, it offers up classic notes of charcoal, subtle smoke, black currants, black berries, lead pencil shavings, and earth. This deep, opulent, full-bodied Cabernet possesses terrific purity as well as length. It should drink well for 15+ years.
Not surprisingly, the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard is a profound Cabernet Sauvignon. The equivalent of a Bordeaux first-growth Pauillac, it boasts abundant quantities of creme de cassis, lead pencil shavings, cedar, and subtle smoky oak and espresso notes. Atypically sexy for a 2006, it is full-bodied with oodles of concentrated black fruits, stunning purity and length, and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. It should hit its apogee in 3-4 years, and last for three decades or more.
Stagecoach Vineyard reveals the extraordinary attributes of this vineyard. This is an expansive wine massive yet well-delineated possessing great depth and vibrancy. Its inky black garnet hues give way to blackberry plum and licorice aromas blanketed with dusty earth and leather. The palate explodes in a muscular display of black fruit cassis and cedar with elements of underbrush and sandalwood adding complexity. Luxuriant flavors persist through a powerful and sinewy mid-palate to a never-ending mocha-tinged finish punctuated by chewy fine-grained tannins. This is a cellar-worthy wine that is graciously giving more than a glimpse of its prodigious gifts.
