Paul Blanck Riesling 2014

Member Review by r sprezzatura:

This is Paul Blanck's everyday, or "Classique" Riesling. It is rated a medium-dry wine (3 of 10- with 10 being the sweetest wine). This isn't the most aromatic Riesling yet there are floral aromas along with honey and minerals. The taste is mellow with some mild spice, apple and apricot. The mouthfeel is smooth. There is enough acidity to provide a well-balanced structure.

medium- lemon in color, with a beautiful and intense developing nose of quince, steely, banana, perfume, slight petrol and honey. Medium acidity and body, intense palate of lemon, honey, quince, slight petrol. Medium length. Very good quality, ready to drink and can develop further.

Holding up well under screw cap in April 2011. Colour golden hue with obvious bottle development. On the nose it shows complex, lifted characters of mineral/citrus, ripe golden peach and a hint of honey. On the palate there is a lovely balance between the acidity, fruit and an aged honeycombe roundness - the acidity is all still there with a clean, crisp finish yet the complex fruit characters come through well on the mid palate - this is a wonderful example of of an entry level riesling developing its full potential under screw cap. I didn't want the bottle to end, but it did!

This terrific estate makes a fabulous range of wines from straightforward classic wines retailing for less than $20 to a broad group of superb single-vineyard Grand Crû Rieslings, Gewürztraminers and Pinot Gris'. This fine Riesling from one of Alsace's very best Grand Crû sites combines richness, minerality and complexity with "vibrant, pure aromas of powdered stone, pineapple and menthol and a captivating, accessible yet persistent finish." An excellent example of what is unique to Alsace whites - richness and dryness perfectly harmonized.
