What to Expect
California has long struggled with Pinot Noir. Finding the right vineyards for this most fickle of grape, one that enjoys a cool growing season yet needs warmth close to harvest to fully ripen, has proven a challenge in such a sunny state. Cooler areas eventually became identified; the Santa Rita Hills, Russian River Valley and Mendocino's Anderson valley are all prime spots for Pinot Noir in California. Unlike the lighter colored and sometimes delicate Pinots of Burgundy, California produces many rich, deep Pinots full of slightly chewy dark berry and cherry fruits with hints of cola, Asian spices and forest floor frequently adding complexity.
Winemakers Notes
From its hypnotic aromatics to its voluptuous red-fruit intensity, the Pisoni possesses an almost otherworldly level of charisma and concentration. Though epic in stature, this wine is still irrefutably Pinot Noir, offering potent framboise, strawberry and cherry layers, accentuated by nuanced elements of chocolate, clove, cardamom and herbes de Provence. Bringing together beautiful structure and ripeness, soft plush tannins and a refreshing openness, this vibrant Pinot finishes with a prolonged and satisfying note of pure red cherry.

Reviews Add a Review
Rating: 95-96 - As reviewed by Vinfolio in Issue 94 Those who come looking for Pisoni Pinot Noir can never say they were not warned. The wines are always some of the most extracted and massively built Pinot Noirs in existence. Coming as it does from the original planting, Patz & Hall fruit benefits from over twenty years of viticultural history from this one-of-a-kind site. The track record here is impeccable. Consistently one of the most sought after wines in the portfolio, the rarity of the large formats makes them an unequivocal opportunity to add to your collection of benchmark new world Pinot Noir.
