Patz & Hall Pinot Noir Mendocino County Alder Springs Vineyard 2007
This is a supple and satisfying wine with an elegant texture that balances lushness with a certain demure quality. Walnut spice bread aromatics mingle with layers of clove, cinnamon spice and mulled cherry cider. On the palate, it is smooth and creamy, with an easy-drinking charm that highlights raspberry, cherry and pomegranate flavors, seamless tannins and a soft, lingering finish.
Established in 1988, Patz & Hall embodies the shared vision and collective expertise of four talented friends - Donald Patz, James Hall, Anne Moses and Heather Patz. Together, this dedicated team of individuals has turned a desire to craft benchmark, single-vineyard Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs into one of California's most celebrated artisan wineries.
Editorial Reviews for Patz & Hall Pinot Noir Mendocino County Alder Springs Vineyard
Gorgeous notes of leaves, stems, and moist soil push back against the nicely judged oak giving the wonderfully ripe juniper tinged, wild berry quality that evolves in the glass. This is just classic Sonoma Pinot noir with a rich mouth feel, a touch of glycerin adding that round, luxurious feel, yet it offers wild cherry flavors spiced with mint and oak that yields to a return of the lovely herbals, vegetal top notes of the nose before fading into a gently vanilla tinged and slightly exotically fruited finish. 90pts
Cola, earth, musk, tea and blond tobacco add depth and complexity to the dried strawberry and cherry fruits of the nose. This is velvety, rich and round with the seamless character of the best domestic Pinots. It lacks some of the brightness I prefer but has lovely depth and a layered feel on the palate. It’s a soft yet intense with an earthy complexion that makes this on outlier for the style, though it is a wine that has something for just about everyone. 91pts
Bold currant, blueberry, and blackberry nose that really grabs you. The mouth takes a gentle first step on the mouth and builds gradually, offering hints of sweetness and oak along the way, and has a satisfying conclusion. The fruits are so powerful that I couldn't drink too much, but I really like it.
Flinty, sweet ripe cherries fill the nose. Tastes of cherry cola and autumn baking spices. A fairly complex wine, with a good fresh acidity, some slight medicinal touches on the finish, and a palate full of cream and cherry.
offers red cherries coupled with earthy characteristics, cinnamon and clove spice intermixed, wonderful complexity of flavors with delicate qualities
Strong nose of cherry. Raspberry and bright strawberry notes before a finish on chocolate. Spicy finish. Very nice
Strong nose of eucalyptus and lush cherry. Bright cherry on the palate with undertones of cherry cordial. - Tasted at Patz & Hall with Heather Patz 4/23/10
Yup, third time's a charm. Still exceptional pinot noir! - Tasted at Patz & Hall with Heather Patz 4/23/10
Dark fruit nose with raspberry, strawberry and earth. A bigger, bolder, more dense style pinot in a spiced, earthy style. Very Burgundian. Finishes on cherry liquer. - Tasted at Patz & Hall with Heather Patz 4/23/10

As this beautiful Russian River Valley vineyard matures under the guidance ofCharlie Chenoweth, it is revealing deeper and more evocative aromas and flavors each vintage. Big,rich and mouth-filling, the 2007 bottling is plush and lingering, combining sweet milk chocolate andspicy red fruit layers, with notes of blueberry, brandied cherry and cinnamon stick. Though seriousin stature, it is also quite precocious, and is already revealing its considerable charms.

The well-made, tannic, dark plum-colored 2003 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard exhibits strawberry, underbrush, forest floor, and sweet cherry characteristics. This chunky, muscular Pinot is not yet fully expressive. Give it another year of bottle age, and drink it over the following 5-7 years.
Readers should not think the 2000 Pinot Noir Hyde Park Vineyard's light to medium ruby color means there us a shortage of flavor. On the contrary, it possesses abundant quantities of sweet black cherry fruit intermixed with dried herbs, earth, and smoke, along with a meaty element reminiscent of a Morey-St-Denis. This tasty, luscious, medium to full-bodied Pinot should be consumed over the next 4-5 years.
With excellent natural acidity, balance, structure and length, this Pinot Noir showsits pedigree from the 2007 vintage. It begins with enticing floral, cherry and strawberry aromas, which are underscored by a distinctive note of clove and cedar spice-a hallmark of Alder Springs. The palate is graceful and layered, displaying elements of raspberry, cherry liqueur, licorice, freshfennel and cinnamon. A lovely expression of this high-mountain vineyard, the 2007 ALDER SPRINGSVINEYARD - Mendocino Pinot Noir is already showing remarkable poise at a relatively early age.
Generous plum, rose petal, wild berry and lavender aromas carry over to the palate in a rich, supple, elegant style. A nice touch of cedary vanilla oak adds a pleasant flavor dimension and the flavors linger on and on. Drink now through 2009.

Food Pairings for Patz & Hall Pinot Noir Mendocino County Alder Springs Vineyard
Cherry earth mineral and dusty cedar aromas are complex and the tannins are firm and tight. At this point the tannins hold the upper edge but short-term cellaring or decanting should do the trick. 531 cases made. Old world in texture and flavors - briar licorice and exotic spicy aromas of cedar and clove. This is a complex and concentrated wine and expands dramatically when decanted.
