Dusty aromas of melon, lemon, honeysuckle, minerals, mint and vanillin oak. Juicy, leanish and quite dry in the mouth; a laid-back, rather sophisticated Chardonnay with subtle flavor intensity. Finishes with some slightly harsh oak and good length.
The 1997 Chardonnay Napa comes from three vineyard sources - Atlas Peak, Hyde Vineyard and Caldwell Vineyard. Less Burgundian that the more mineral-dominated Sonoma Coast offering, the Napa Chardonnay exhibits copious quantities of tropical fruit, full body, rich fruit and a more direct, less complex, but satisfying, impeccably made style. It is best consumed over the next 1-2 years.
The 1998 Napa Chardonnay made from fragrant clones of this varietal. Aged in two-thirds new French oak, it offers a candy, lemon drop-scented nose with orange rind and subtle smoke. Ripe, with hefty alcohol (14.4%), it possesses tangy acidity, medium body, and fine length.
Exhibited a light greenish/straw color, crisp acid levels and a zesty bouquet of lemon rind, orange marmalade, currants, and a hint of white flowers. Expressive, medium to full-bodied, elegant, and pure, it is a wonderful introduction to Patz and Hall style.
Exhibits a rich, layered mix of ripe pear, fig, melon and honeysuckle flavors that are intense yet polished, firm and concentrated. The long, lingering finish repeats the fruit themes, with a hint of butterscotch. Drink now through 2012.
This outstanding California Chardonnay is Burgundian in style, oozing appley-butter and yeasty, nut-like nuances. Firmly structured, with intense depth and meticulously integrated fruit and oak, this handcrafted wine is ready to enjoy now. Winemaker James Hall gets his fruit from the same source as Pahlmeyer, and production is under 1000 cases.
