Wine Tasting NotesThe Estate Old Vine bottling is the opposite or perhaps, more accurately, the inverse of the Estate bottling. The Old Vine has a red core of sweet fruit, spice and an exceptional degree of minerality and salt to it with an outer casing of darker fruit notes and some refined toastiness from the barrels. Of the four wines we bottle from our Estate Vineyard this is the most suave and cool. The fruit is quite refined, the palate is silky and mid-bodied and the minerality is palpable. This wine will age gracefully and be a seamless and extraordinary Pinot Noir for many, many years. Dont mistake these notes to read that this wine lacks concentration. There is more than ample substance to this Pinot, it is just contained in an extremely well-defined package.
This Pinot begins with a whiff of smoky wood on the nose, which is well integrated with the dark stone fruit flavors on the palate. Dark cherry and cola nut flavors predominate. The finish is lifted by bright acidity that balances the fruit for length of the finish.
Light, bright red. Vibrant redcurrant and strawberry aromas are enlivened by fresh rose, baking spices and zesty minerality. Impressively bright red fruit flavors are framed by silky tannins and given lift by tangy blood orange. Finishes juicy, fresh... Stephen Tanzer. Wine Tasting NotesThis bottling is designed to show off the inherent power that younger vines display in the Ribbon Ridge Appellation. This is wine of dark cherries and blueberries wrapped in a rose petal package. The Wadensvil clone (at some point this will likely be the best part of the vineyard) provides such a unique level of femininity and elegance to this dark, brooding and powerful wine giving it an extra level of interest, complexity and length. The wine displays the firm, ripe tannins one would expect from this bottling and the vintage gives it a certain flamboyance and ripeness that the overall impression is of a well-focused Pinot Noir with a dark side to it that in certain parts of its aging in your cellar will come out in different ways. This should be a fascinating wine for years to come.
A bit of smokey dried cherries on the nose promises deep raisin flavors, but the palate is lifted by a bright stony acidity that lightens the depth of the fruit. The old vines kick in on the finish with a concentrated cherry licquor flavor that lasts for days.
Dark red. Spicy strawberry and cherry on the nose, with complicating mineral and floral qualities building with air. Racy wild strawberry and bitter cherry flavors are light in weight but pack good punch, gaining depth and sweetness on the back end. ... Stephen Tanzer. Winemaker's Notes:
"Light red. Intensely floral, complex bouquet of raspberry, fresh and dried flowers, cinnamon and mocha. Fleshy and sweet, with medium body to the intense red berry flavors. Dusty tannins gain strength with air and add grip to the long, sappy finish. I'd bet on this gaining complexity with a few years in the cellar."90(+?) pointsBy Josh Raynolds, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/Jun 08
