New to the Malbec (only) wines and am impressed with this low cost Malbec. It has a very deep purple appearance and did not hit my nose with much more than some fruit. I found this to have an excellent balance, smooth and light, if any, tannins. After some breathing, some pepper and spice came out that were not apparent at first taste. Blackberry is very strong to me and lingers. This wine rests nicely on the sides of the tongue and slowly leaves the palate. I would pair this with pasta and most meats, not steak, and will probably put it into regular rotation.

I'll definitely buy more of this! Great value. The nose was what you'd expect from a Malbec ... dark, ripe fruit. I enjoyed the blackberry, coffee, bitter chocolate and licorice flavors in this full-bodied wine. Very fruit forward on the attack, but it has a few nice surprises on the mid-palate and a wonderful, lingering finish. Very smooth tannins.

Intense berry flavor with the note of chocolate, nuts. This wine has well balanced tannin and has good structure and texture. I really like this wine. Easy to enjoy and straight forward good red wine.

This is an update to my earlier review. After letting this bold malbec age a bit, I found it more enjoyable than the first taste! Let it open up and the rich texture fills the mouth with dark flavors of coffee, chocolate and licorice. Very drinkable with most foods. I'm down to my last bottle from the original case.

Accolades: Robert Parkers Wine Advocate: "The lineup starts with the 2007 Malbec, forty percent of which was aged in American oak for 10 months. It reveals an alluring nose of black cherry and blueberry leading to a grapy, smooth-textured, forward wine with tons of flavor. Drink this crowd-pleaser over the next three years. It is an awesome value." (Dec. 2008) Wine Spectator: "Fresh and open, with a mix of raspberry and black cherry fruit followed by a modest dose of toast on the easygoing finish. Drink now." (11/08) The new 2007 Pascual Toso Malbec is as good as ever. It offers a bit more aromatic complexity than the 2006, with an inviting nose of sweet blackberries, vanilla and mocha, hiding a core of white pepper, violet and cassis. Fleshy and ripe with a bursting mid-palate of juicy cherry, black currant and pie crust, this is completely enjoyable and instantly drinkable, showing the hand of consulting winemaker, Paul Hobbs.

The 2006 vintage of this ripe Mendoza Malbec was rated 91 pts. and selected as Wine Enthusiast Magazine's #1 Best Buy of the Year! The 2007 is just as if not more bold, lush and intense than the 2006. Winemaker Paul Hobbs is the consulting enologist and this wine is a clear indication that he’s steering this established Argentine property in the right direction. A tremendous value.
