Parker Fess Pinot Noir 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

There is no shortage of strawberry, bing cherry, raspberry and mocha notes on the nose of this excellent example of a Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir. This wine is well balanced with a good, acidic backbone exhibiting flavors of cranberry, pomegranate and mulberry on the palate. Excellent with duck, lamb and anything you would care to barbeque!

When Fess Parker was cast in the roll of Davy Crockett in the mid-1950’s, it caused an international sensation and changed his life forever. So too did the purchase of 714 acres in the Santa Ynez Valley change the course of the Parker family’s history. Realizing the potential of Santa Barbara County as a premium grape-growing region, Fess and his son, Eli, originally set out in 1989 to plant a small vineyard and sell fruit to local producers. But, as Fess’ daughter, Ashley explains, “ Fess is from Texas, so he can’t do anything small. “The Fess Parker Winery and Vineyard now farms almost 700 acres on four vineyards throughout Santa Barbara County. Heavy earth on the nose with a good dose of campfire going on. This is almost coconutty with a shading of chocolate covering the cherry fruit. A bit tight and ungiving. Tight on the palate as well, definitely unusually reticent with a fine feel, juicy and bright though with the gentle sweetness of ripeness. This is really not showing enough to pass judgment on at this point. Lot of black cherry and spice on the finish, which continues the earth theme brightening with some astringent red berry notes. The finish gains a distinctly minty note. Patience required though the finish bodes well for the future with its fine length and resonant sweet cherry fruit with just a hint of 5-spice. (89-93)

This wine was not very drinkable. I would not consider it worthy in terms of price either. I didn't taste the slightest hint of oak. It was somewhat earthy & very high in tannins. Fruit feel was overpowered by the distinct clove. Body was too light for my tastes.

This wine has a classic flavor combination featuring dried cherries and herbs, with a bit of smoky oak. A nice, lively backbone of silky tannins supports the fruit and oak seamlessly.

A fuller-style Pinot Noir - dark plum color in the glass with alluring vibrant aromas of red apple skins, blackberry, vanilla and cherries. Mouthfilling style suited for wine drinkers who like a heavy wine.

Enticing aromas of black cherry, forest floor, cola, black currant, raspberry, sandalwood and nutmeg. Flavors of black cherry, red currant, cranberry, chocolate, spice and vanilla.

From Fess Parker Winery, this nicely structured Pinot Noir has a lot going for it. Bright, candy apple red; aromas of cherry, bourbon, and spice. It balances its spicy cherry pie flavor with soft tannins and undertones of vanilla and toast. Enjoy this wine as an aperitif or with dinner.

It is our sole purpose and pleasure at Parker Station to remind people everywhere why they love Pinot Noir! This medium to full bodied Pinot Noir displays enticing cherry and plum and strawberry fruit flavors on the nose and palate, complemented by nuances of spice, clove and herbs with a hint of toasty oak. Round balanced and eminently drinkable, enjoy a glass tonight.

Wine Tasting NotesAromas of strawberry, cherry, light spice, leather, smoky nuances, and a touch of mintiness are found on the nose of this Pinot Noir. Flavors of cherry, strawberry, earthiness, leather, and light smoke give way to a smooth, lengthy finish.
