What to Expect

Petite Sirah is one of a group of grapes that took to a new home - in this case California - after moving from the relative obscurity enjoyed at its birthplace - France in this case - where it is called Duriff. While never particularly elegant nor subtle, Petite Sirah can produce large-scaled, intense wines with bright flavors of blue and plummy fruits, rich with earthy tannins.

Winemakers Notes

PETITE S IRAH, Mendo c ino
T R U E G R I T
Can a wine be rugged and true? Can it be swaggering, brash and confident? Taste True Grit and you’ll answer, “Yes!” Petite Sirah survived
phylloxera and Prohibition, and some of those old, burly vines still stand, among the oldest in America. We’ve been making Petite Sirah at Parducci for generations. We know our way around this
varietal, and True Grit is something special: big and bold, with plenty of heart. Dark, intense, peppery, and a little rough around the edges.

Editorial Reviews

Man give me a great big rare burger with a thick slice or bermuda onion on it and this will sing!. Lots of plum, sugared raspberry, muddy earth, wood spice, and india ink on the nose with a full, polished feel. Really well integrated structural elements support rich, dark yet fresh fruit in the mouth with a bit of grabbing tannin popping on the moderately long finish. Neither a brute nor rustic, just pure, balanced petite. A lovely wine in its own way. 89pts

There's some char in there and bacon, additionally. Very round flavor. I can drink a whole bottle of this stuff easily, with it's savory aromas, mild sweetness, and strong wood notes.

Very bold wine. Too acidic for my taste.

Imistakenly put the review for the 2006 in the 2005. big bold summertime grilling wine. dry and acidic which begs for a hunk of meat. I had it with a guacomole cheddar burger with chipotle sauce. the midpalate is the highlight. if it were like the finish this would get a 5.

The label "True Grit" is an early indication to get ready cause this wine is going to wrestle with your taste buds. Although, the Berry nose belies what follows: Lead, Wood, & heat practically obscure the Dark Berries underneath. Lots of pith as in Popsicle Stick on the finish.

Heady aromas of ripe fruit, white pepper and vanilla are followed by an intense rush of fresh blackberry, dark chocolate, pepper and caramel flavors. True Grit is a natural mate forseared steak, sausage, grilled pork loin, and smoked meats. This wine is big, but can dance lightly in both familiar and exotic menu settings.
